Junos Firmware Release :junos-srxsme-12.0R1.8-domestic
junos-srxsme - Image type that indicates the device that the code is for in this case an SRX 210 series services gateway
12.0 - Major Version Number – This is the timed release piece. Currently they represent in a loose fashion the year and quarter. So this release would be the first quarter of 2010.
R - Build Type – R is a general release, there are also special releases, internal releases and Beta releases (see below for more information
1. - Release Number – This is incremented as the release matures. There are rumors to the effect that .1s are not good, .2s are bug releases etc… Watch the boards for good and bad things about any release.
.8 - Build Number – Again an incremental indicator. You do not often see multiple releases and builds 1.2 followed by 1.3.

domestic - Export Control – We do have to protect the world from tough encryption, so “export” is a detuned domestic.
